What is OSB?

About OSB

OSB is the abbreviation of Oriented Strand Board in English. It means "Directed Chipboard".

Chips are produced by vertical grating of wooden pieces. OSB is a material formed by combining the chips in the same directions and combining them with chemicals such as glue and wax under the influence of temperature and pressure.

OSB Sheet Types

OSB sheets are produced in 4 different types according to their usage areas as OSB-1, OSB-2, OSB-3 and OSB-4.

OSB-1

For general use. Suitable for use in dry areas away from moisture.

OSB-2

It use in areas where there is no moisture and water effect. It has carrier feature.

OSB-3

Suitable for use in wet areas. It has carrier feature.

OSB-4

There is no harm in wetting and they can carry heavier loads than OSB-3.

Features of OSB

OSB chips on the front and back surfaces are placed in the long direction. The chips in the central regions are placed vertical to the chips on the surface.

It is a very preferred material because it is an easily applicable material.

Emery is not necessary.

It has environmentally friendly, natural and mechanically strong properties.

The natural and warm appearance of the product is one of the reasons why it is preferred.

Like other wood materials, OSB can be easily cut with known wood cutting tools and methods. OSB parts can be fixed and joined with screws, nails or connectors.

The foreheads of the plates are the most sensitive parts. These areas should not get wet.

The boards should be stacked and stored on supporting elements in a horizontal position, not more than 60 cm apart.

OSB Dimensions

OSBs are generally manufactured in dimensions of 122 cm x 244 cm or 125 cm x 250 cm and are produced in 9 mm, 10 mm, 11 mm, 12 mm, 15 mm, 18 mm, 22 mm and 25 mm thicknesses.

Where is OSB used?

Roofing is one of the places where OSB is most used.
